There will be no more water disruption in Honiara, thanks to SBD150 million funding from Asia Development Bank.
Development partners and stakeholders witnessed the launching of the record breaking project last week.
Representative of Asian Development Bank Elmar Elbling says, the Kongulai water treatment plant will produce 15 million litres of treated water daily – a volume of water that will benefit more than 140,00 people living in the greater Honiara area.
“The frequent shutdowns of water due to heavy rain and high turbidity (water), which impact households and businesses throughout the greater Honiara area will become a thing of the past,” Elbling says.
He says, the project’s development partners envision a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Pacific region to eradicate extreme poverty and hardship – adding the Kongulai water treatment plant supports this vision.
Gloria Hong representing Solomon Water echoes, the Water treatment project comes at a high cost that stakeholders and users must be responsible to ensure the infrastructure is well looked after and maintained.
“This project is a milestone achievement for Solomon Water, and it is our wish and hope that we must take ownership of this project in order for Solomon Water to enhance its service delivery heading into the future and beyond,” she says.
