The People’s Republic of China (PRC) through its Honiara Embassy and Solomon Islands Government through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) programme is co- funding a million-dollar mini-hospital in East Malaita.
The project is facilitated under East Malaita Constituency and will provide services for the Eastern Malaita Region as far as East Fataleka to East Kwaio and even to East Are’are.
The completion of the hospital will alleviate people’s challenge to access better health and medical services.
Ground work has already commenced on 20th August 2022 and the project site is at Atori in East Malaita.
According to East Malaita Constituency Project Officer, William Kwalemanu, the project will be the biggest ever infrastructure project to be delivered under the Constituency Development Priorities.
He says the mini-hospital will accommodate modern technologies as such the building itself will be something of modern setting.
“Everything is on track as we expect to complete the Outpatient Section before the year end,” William Kwalemanu says.
Kwalemanu is currently in Honiara to arrange shipment of building materials to continue the work on the hospital project construction.
He says shipment of materials is expected to be shipped to Malaita anytime this month.
“The materials to be shipped are for flooring to rafters. Roofing materials will be shipped in July,” Kwalemanu says.
He acknowledges Harly Designs Consultancy Ltd and his professional team and the support from communities in East Malaita.
“The only challenge for us is weather conditions –especially rainy seasons which would disrupt construction work.” Kwalemanu says.
