The Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Hon Manasseh Sogavare says, the local tourism industry needs cohesive support across all sectors to realize its potential.

Speaking during the Tourism In Focus event this week, Hon Sogavare says the country’s tourism industry has its own characteristics to grow.

He says the obvious characteristic is that, the industry cannot operate alone.

“It needs, for instance, the transport sector; both aviation and maritime, must be organised in such a way that supports our visitors and their expeditions within our country.

“The industry relies on our airlines, our shipping services, our taxi services and small boat operators, which move our visitors around.

“If one of these transport systems fails, our visitors will be stranded and the whole system will be affected,” Hon Sogavare says.

He says each sector must compliments each other in a cohesive manner to deliver much needed services.

Hon Sogavare says the local tourism industry is growing in different ways adding the overarching Government policies is more or less cross sectorial.

He told those present that the world is so connected that most of the sectors are cross paths distinctively.

Hon Sogavare says Solomon Islands tourism industry is operating in much similar concept.

Tourism In Focus is an annual event where operators, potential investors and government officials meet to discuss tourism.
