IWD celebrated in Honiara

WOMEN in all works of life flood the street of Honiara to celebrate International Women Day.
Over a thousand women, girls and even men joined hands to celebrate the annual event with a colorful parade from the Honiara City Council to town ground.

celebrating, learning, empowering and protecting women of Solomon Islands through technology.

Christina Lasaqa says technology is important in achieving gender equality while give birth to innovation with right information and education.
She says education and information is paramount in societal development.
“Nowadays through digital and technology people can access useful information online and more educated society will drive gender equality,” Lasaqa says.
Meanwhile Police Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force RSIPF Mostyn Mangau says, March 8 is not only important for women across Solomon Islands, but the police force.
He says RSIPF embraces equity and support the progress of women through the organization.
“We are very committed in making sure the police force is a reflection of the community here in Solomon Islands. We work very hard on making sure our officers are available to meet and work with women in the community on issues affecting women and girls,” Mangau says.
He adds “Violence against women and girls in Solomon Islands is a significant problem and I would like to encourage men to take responsibility for their role in ensuring the safety of our women and girls.”
