THE bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare of the Solomon Islands and Premier Li Qiang of China reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to the One China Policy and their strong cooperation in various areas.
The meeting emphasized the principles of equality, mutual benefit, and respect for each other’s sovereignty, highlighting the growing partnership between the two nations in the Pacific region.
Prime Minister Sogavare expressed Solomon Islands’ respect for the One China Policy and its willingness to learn from the One China Principle for its own development.
He acknowledged the importance of the Solomon Islands-China cooperation and praised the friendship and shared ideals between the two countries, particularly in the areas of mutual respect, peace, and sustainable development.
The Prime Minister also commended China for its Belt and Road Initiative, which was celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2023, and expressed support for China’s Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and efforts towards poverty alleviation, public health, and the common good for all.
Premier Li Qiang responded by stating that China is ready to increase its development support for the Solomon Islands and further elevate the current bilateral relations to new heights.
He welcomed the opportunity for dialogue and emphasized the importance of continuity and enhancement of bilateral interaction and cooperation between the two countries.
