Traffic Officers Engage in ‘Bonding and Fitness’ Program in Preparation for Pacific Games

THE National Traffic Department (NTD) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has launched a weekly outdoor program with the aim of fostering camaraderie among Traffic officers and enhancing their fitness levels.

According to Police Media Unit, Traffic officers take a break from their duties every week to spend a few hours in the field engaging in ball games and exercises, promoting team bonding and physical well-being.

Director of NTD, Superintendent William Foufaka, expressed that the program’s initiation was driven by the need to strengthen the bonds among traffic officers and improve their overall fitness levels.

“This outdoor physical activity program is a weekly occurrence, mandatory for all traffic officers and will persist until the Pacific Games in November. Bonding and fitness are crucial aspects of our preparations for the upcoming event,” emphasized Supt. Foufaka.

Highlighting the importance of the program, Supt. Foufaka acknowledged that fitness levels among officers were below the desired standard, as evident from their initial sessions in the field. The ongoing program aims to address this gap and elevate the overall fitness of traffic officers.

“The program serves to enhance the capacity and capability of all traffic officers, ensuring they maintain optimal fitness and health,” added Supt. Foufaka.

Kevin Shaw, an advisor from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) supporting the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP), expressed the significance of fitness not only for physical health but also for mental well-being.

“This program ensures that officers are in top form during the busy period leading up to the Pacific Games. By instilling healthy habits in young officers, the Traffic Director is ensuring they are prepared to serve their community effectively,” noted Advisor Shaw.

RAPPP is proud to collaborate with Supt. Foufaka and his dedicated team, providing support for the training program. Supt. Foufaka aspires to expand the outdoor program into the gym, scheduling sessions at the RSIPF Health and Wellness Fitness Centre for gym exercises.

The Health and Wellness Fitness Centre, backed by RAPPP, continues to receive support through the provision of equipment and dedicated funding for health and fitness trainers. It serves as a hub where RSIPF officers access personalized fitness training programs, health tips, and checks to maintain their operational health and fitness levels for policing duties.
