GENDER Coordinator of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Staff Sergeant Alice Roteku, recently spearheaded a gender workshop at the Kukum National Traffic Centre, specifically tailored for female officers within the RSIPF National Traffic Department (NTD).

According to RSIPF, the initiative for this workshop came from the Director of NTD, Superintendent William Foufaka, along with the support of RAPPP Advisor Kevin Shaw.

This marks the beginning of a series of workshops that are anticipated to be conducted across various sectors of the RSIPF.

Aligned with the RSIPF’s comprehensive gender strategy, Staff Sergeant Roteku emphasized the significance of advancing the role of women in Pacific policing.

The participating officers unanimously recognized the pivotal role of fostering a workplace culture that actively values and supports women in all facets of policing, contributing to a robust and professional force for all RSIPF officers.

Superintendent Foufaka exhibited wholehearted support for the workshop, actively encouraging the attendance of all female officers under his command.

He also expressed a desire for a future gender workshop that includes executive members, ensuring a strategic promotion of gender equality within the NTD response.

In preparation for the Pacific Games (PG23), NTD members are gearing up to provide proactive and highly visible policing. This dedicated team will deliver a 24/7 police response to effectively manage the anticipated surge in traffic and uphold community safety during PG23.

Noteworthy is the significant presence of female traffic officers within the NTD, who will play a pivotal role in frontline policing throughout PG23. Superintendent Foufaka perceives this as an opportune moment to showcase the NTD’s and the RSIPF’s unwavering commitment to gender equality.
