AUSTRALIA has just rolled out a big plan to improve online security that will last until 2030. They’re putting a lot of money, AUD $130 million, into making sure countries in our region can deal with online threats better.
This comes after Australia already played a big role in supporting online security efforts in the Pacific.
The Oceania Cyber Security Centre (OCSC) thinks this shows Australia is serious about tackling cybercrime and making the digital world safer in the Pacific. It’s not just talk; they’re backing it up with a substantial investment to help the region develop in this important area.
After a series of meetings, leaders endorsed a plan for the Blue Pacific region that will guide them until 2050. In this plan, they’re putting a special focus on cybersecurity in areas like Peace and Security, and Technology and Connectivity. They know they need to improve how well the region can handle online challenges to meet their goals by 2050.
Following the success of an earlier cybersecurity event, the OCSC was asked to help with discussions about working together on online security at a meeting in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. As an organization working to make the region better at handling online threats, OCSC is happy to see more attention given to online security in the plan. They fully support the decision to make online security a key part of how the region develops. It’s a team effort to make sure the Pacific is strong against online risks.
