A tragic incident occurred recently at Bahai bus stop, leading to the untimely death of an injured victim.
According to Police Media Unit, Superintendent William Foufaka, Director of the National Traffic Department (NTD) within the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF), provided details on the ongoing investigation into the fatal accident.
Director Foufaka said the deceased, accompanied by two friends, was walking in a westerly direction along the path at Bahai bus stop. They encountered a group of boys and decided to cross the road towards the easterly direction. The trio attempted to avoid the approaching boys, but three of them quickly closed in from behind. One of the boys seized a speaker (music box) owned by the deceased.
Mr. Foufaka alleged that the deceased clung tightly to the speaker, prompting another suspect to assault him. The victim was struck on his left hand and back shoulder, causing him to fall unconscious to the ground.
Despite regaining consciousness, the injured victim tried to flee for his life by running across the road. Tragically, he was struck by a vehicle traveling on the eastbound lane and succumbed to his injuries later at the National Referral Hospital (NRH).
It was further revealed that the other two friends of the deceased, under the assumption that he had managed to escape the assailants, fled the scene.
Subsequently, the driver involved in the fatal accident was apprehended and charged. However, the suspects responsible for physically assaulting the deceased and leading to the fatal accident remain at large.
The RSIPF and NTD are actively continuing their investigations to bring those responsible for this tragic incident to justice.
