Carbon-neutral development has important economic value for environmental protection

Chairman Stanley Manetiva with officials of Solomon Da Guang Trading Limited

CARBON-neutral development holds significant economic value in the realm of environmental protection. In alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, the Solomon Islands recognizes the imperative of preserving its national forest industry in a sustainable manner to uphold ecological equilibrium. This necessitates the establishment of collaborative partnerships bridging the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, Energy, Water, and Mines.

Facilitated by the Solomon Green Sustainable Development Foundation, in conjunction with Singapore Treasure Carbon Tech PTE Ltd and supported by Solomon Da Guang Trading Limited, a novel green economic model will be employed to spearhead national forest carbon rights research and development initiatives. This endeavor will encompass the systematic maintenance and reforestation of harvested areas, thereby mitigating the risk of widespread deforestation.

Furthermore, this carbon rights development strategy will undergo scrutiny by VERRA, a non-profit organization affiliated with the United Nations, ensuring adherence to international standards and practices. Upon completion, accredited manufacturers will oversee global distribution, with a portion of proceeds reinvested into local enterprises. Consequently, this initiative aims to elevate living standards, bolster educational and healthcare facilities, create forest maintenance employment opportunities, and foster sustainable industrial growth within the Solomon Islands.

Simultaneously, a comprehensive civilian energy deployment scheme will be advanced, commencing with the distribution of solar dome heaters to over 100,000 households across various villages. This initiative not only facilitates residential heating needs but also fortifies community welfare initiatives. The inaugural phase will commence in the Central Province, with subsequent expansion slated for other provinces.
