Sogavare re-elected

FORMER Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, also the incumbent wing leader of Our Party, has secured his re-election as the Member of Parliament for East Choiseul.

The announcement came just before midnight today, as the Returning Officer Christopher Makoni for East Choiseul provisionally declared Mr. Sogavare got the majority votes against his four other candidates vying for East Choiseul parliamentary seat.

Sogavare’s tenure marks him as the longest-serving Member of Parliament, having served for 27 years and completing a full four-year term as Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands.

His political journey commenced in 1997 when he triumphed in the East Choiseul Constituency seat during the national general elections.
