Solomon Airlines will commence a weekly round trip flight from Brisbane to Espiritu Santo island in Vanuatu starting on 4 July. This new flight route is seen as a crucial direct link between Australia and Vanuatu, especially after Air Vanuatu ceased operations in May due to voluntary liquidation, resulting in the suspension of all flights. Adela Issachar Aru, the chief executive of the Vanuatu Tourism Office, expressed enthusiasm about the new direct weekly service from Brisbane to Santo, viewing it as a positive step towards re-establishing air connectivity in the region. Additionally, Solomon Airlines also operates two weekly flights between Brisbane and Port Vila via Honiara.
Solomon Airlines has been connecting the islands to the rest of the world, playing a crucial role in promoting tourism and facilitating trade in the region. Air Vanuatu, on the other hand, was the national airline of Vanuatu. Founded in 1981, Air Vanuatu had been serving as a vital link between Vanuatu’s various islands and popular international destinations like Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. It’s was a great pity to see Air Vanuatu go into liquidation.
