THE power availability in Honiara City has been reduced to approximately 10MW due to a reduction in the transmission capacity from Lungga Power Station.

This reduction is the result of a technical fault on one of our step-up (11kV/33kV) transformers at the Lungga Power Station.

According to a statement issued this afternoon by Solomon Power says that assessments have been carried out to determine the extent of the fault. However, it will take time to fully establish the condition of the transformer and ascertain the necessary repairs required to fix the issue.

Solomon Power sincerely apologizes to all its valued customers in Honiara City for the resulting load shedding. Due to the reduction in capacity, we are unable to meet the power demand, especially during the day. As a result, a load shedding schedule has been implemented, meaning some areas will experience power outages for certain periods.

Solomon Power is doing everything possible to restore the transformer and normalize the power supply. We thank all our customers for their patience and understanding during this time.

Meanwhile, customers and business owners in Honiara City are frustrated by the power cuts, citing business losses and raising concerns that Solomon Power should better manage the situation, especially considering that electricity in the Solomon Islands is among the most expensive in the region.
