Calligraphy experience attracted many children
THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) held a police family activity at the Rove Headquarters recently.
The event brought together about 150 children and their family members to celebrate Christmas and the New Year while promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding.
The event featured a calligraphy workshop, a tea ceremony experience, and a Chinese movie screening, which provided participants the opportunities to explore and appreciate Chinese culture.
One highlight was the calligraphy experience, where organisers translated and wrote children’s names in Chinese characters. Many participants also tried their hand at using traditional brushes, carefully mimicking each stroke and enjoying the charm of Chinese calligraphy.
Another favourite was the tea-tasting session, which offered a glimpse into the sophistication of Chinese tea culture. Participants not only enjoyed different types of Chinese tea, such as green tea, black tea, oolong, pu’er, jasmine tea, etc., but also gained a deeper appreciation for the philosophy and aesthetics behind the practice.
The event also included engaging games that fostered meaningful connections among participants. The chopstick experience brought plenty of laughter and tested everyone’s coordination skills; the Chinese childhood traditional game ‘Drop the Handkerchief’ created an atmosphere filled with joy and connection across boundaries.
RSIPF Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention (NCCP) Mr. Simpson Pogeava acknowledged and greatly appreciated the efforts and support of the CPLT, Human Resources Department, Operational Safety Training staff, and other colleagues to come together for the festive celebration.
AC Pogeava said, “We hope you all enjoy the cultural activities that bring family together, strengthen the bonds, foster mutual understanding, allow children to experience other cultures, and inspire their creativity.”
CPLT Commissioner Liu Shenghuang highlights the support for RSIPF officers and the values of family activity and cultural events. Shared activities like games build bonds among families and will, in turn, enable officers to gain the encouragement of their family members and to balance their professional responsibilities with family life.
He took the opportunity to extend heartfelt year-end greetings to all RSIPF officers and their families, expressed gratitude for their continuous support throughout the year, and reaffirmed CPLT’s commitment to strengthening cooperation.
The event concluded with participants expressing their appreciation for the meaningful connections made and the opportunity to experience diverse cultural traditions.
