Ambassador of Qatar Presents Credentials to Governor General

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Mr. Ali Saad Mohamed Habab Al-Hajri delivering his remarks.

THE Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Mr. Ali Saad Mohamed Habab Al-Hajri, today presented his Letter of Credence to the Governor General of Solomon Islands, His Excellency Sir David Tiva Kapu, at Government House.

Governor General Sir David Tiva Kapu congratulated Ambassador Al-Hajri on his appointment as the non-resident Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Solomon Islands, based in Canberra, Australia.

He noted that the two nations have shared warm and cordial relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties on February 8, 2011.

“I look forward to the further strengthening of our bilateral relations under your leadership, and I hope to see enhanced cooperation between our countries, particularly in areas such as technical collaboration, development assistance, trade, and investment,” said Governor General Sir David Tiva Kapu.

He also reaffirmed Solomon Islands’ readiness to engage in all areas of mutual interest.

“We thank the State of Qatar for its contributions to peace, and we assure you of Solomon Islands’ support for peace in the Middle East,” he added.

The Governor General further expressed Solomon Islands’ desire to deepen engagement with all Gulf countries and, with the agreement of the State of Qatar, to cross-accredit its Ambassador in the United Arab Emirates to Qatar.

In his remarks, Ambassador Al-Hajri expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to further developing bilateral relations.

“The State of Qatar is pleased with the progress of our diplomatic ties and looks forward to strengthening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest,” said Ambassador Al-Hajri.

 “I am committed to enhancing the friendly relations that already exist between our countries.”

He also conveyed his enthusiasm for learning more about Solomon Islands’ rich culture and traditions.

Qatar is an independent emirate located in the Middle East peninsula, in the Persian Gulf. It shares land border with Saudi Arabia to the south, whilst Bahrain, UAE and Iran are also nearby.’

 As at August 2024, the population of Qatar is estimated to be around 3 million, with migrant workers making over 80% of the total population. Arabic is the official language, and religion is predominantly Sunni Muslim.

The Qatari economy is one of the fastest growing in the region, characterised by high economic growth and per capita income levels. This is driven by oil and natural gas resources.
