The head of policy in the Solomon Islands government clarified that the country’s proposed citizenship by investment program will be managed in a way that never compromises its sovereignty. Prime Minister Jeremia Manele announced last year that the government aims to develop a citizenship by investment scheme to boost revenues, although he emphasized that it remains a work in progress.
In a recent statement, McFaddean Aoraunisaka, from the Office of the Prime Minister, reaffirmed the government’s stance, saying, “Citizenship is a sacred bond between an individual and our nation.—it shall never be commercialized in a manner that undermines our sovereignty, dignity, or identity.”
While acknowledging international concerns, including criticisms from regional and Western nations, Solomon Islands maintains that the program will be developed with transparency, security, and aligned with its constitution. The government also pointed out that reports claiming the program is already operational are false, and no such system is in place yet.
Amid increased scrutiny from global powers, especially following recent US policy shifts, the Solomon Islands emphasizes their commitment to retaining full control over citizenship matters. They warned against scams and unauthorized promotional activities, promising legal action against any misuse of the country’s name.
