Mindset plus training and community engagements delivered in Makira-Ulawa Province

SEVENTEEN officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and three officers of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) have recently undergone mindset plus training in Kirakira, Makira-Ulawa Province.

The training is supported by the New Zealand Police through the Solomon Islands Policing Support Programme (SIPSP).

Makira-Ulawa Community Policing and Provincial Training officer Sergeant Audrey Suhata and Training Officer Sergeant Vincent of Ngelea from Honiara City focus their training on developing high-performing teams, effective community engagement, and implementing effective crime prevention strategies.

The CSSI officers further enhanced the training by sharing their knowledge on rehabilitation programs designed to change offender behaviors and prevent re-offense.

SIPSP advisors and Sergeant Audrey also held a workshop with community leaders from the Horu community, where they taught them how to use the problem-solving model SARA (Scan, Analyze, Response, Assess) and the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) strategic planning tool.

This will significantly enhance the capacity of community leaders to response to pressing issues and play a vital in the completion and implementing of the Horu community by laws.

The team later visited Manama School, where Sergeant Audrey Suhata delivered important safety messages focusing on crime prevention awareness to the students. Subsequently, a presentation of sports items was made to the school, supporting student engagement and physical development.

The continued partnership between RSIPF and the New Zealand Police remain instrumental in strengthening community-based crime prevention through equipping them with essential tools and knowledge.

The training, school and community visits, and discussions in Makira reinforce the RSIPF commitment to keeping the Solomon Islands a safe and peaceful place.
