The 4th China Medical Team Brings Warmth and Friendship through Free Clinics to Central Province

FROM August 18 to 22, 2025, at the invitation of David Teva, Chairman of the Bokolonga Community in Central Province of Solomon Islands, the 4th China Medical Team(CMT) carried out free clinic service in the region. The event was warmly welcomed by local residents and was a great success.

Central Province is located in the central part of Solomon Islands. Due to the geographical layout of the islands, residents mainly rely on boats for inter-island travel, which makes medical access difficult. Against this backdrop, the China Medical Team took proactive steps to reach grassroots communities and bring medical services directly to the people.

On August 19, the medical team departed by boat from Tulagi, the provincial capital, to the Bokolonga community. Upon their arrival, they were warmly received by local residents, who presented flower garlands as a symbol of blessing and welcome. The atmosphere was both lively and heartwarming. Community Chairman David Teva expressed his sincere gratitude and heartfelt welcome to the medical team.

The free clinic was led by Zhao Xueke, the team leader of China Medical Team. At the clinic site, team members leveraged their professional expertise and rich clinical experience to provide comprehensive and considerate healthcare services. These services included screening for hypertension and diabetes, malaria testing, diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases, as well as health consultations. Traditional Chinese medicine was also offered, providing services such as general physical examinations, acupuncture, moxibustion, and joint effusion extraction treatments. For patients with abnormal blood pressure or blood sugar levels, the team developed personalized treatment plans on-site, which included dietary and lifestyle advice as well as medication guidance. In addition, various urgently needed medications, such as antidiabetics, antihypertensives, and antibiotics, were distributed free of charge. The clinic ran daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CMT treated more than 350 patients in total during their stay, delivering health and care to the local people.

Local residents held a heartfelt farewell ceremony to see off the Chinese Medical Team after the conclusion of the free clinic. People sang songs of praise, offered their blessings, adorned the team members with flower garlands, and lined up to shake hands with every member of the Chinese Medical Team. As the boat carrying the team slowly departed, large crowds remained at the shore, waving continuously, reluctant to part. These touching moments vividly embodied the profound friendship between Chinese and Solomon Islands people.

This free clinic not only effectively alleviated the difficulties in accessing medical care for residents of the outer islands, but also brought the medical team closer to the local community, allowing the warmth of health care to reach every corner.

Community Chairman David Teva said emotionally:

“Our community and surrounding villages feel incredibly fortunate and happy to receive such free medical services. I want to thank your outstanding team and the Chinese Embassy for organizing this free clinic. You are now like family members to us, like members of this community. Therefore, we would like to sing a song—We Are One Big Happy Family—to express our heartfelt gratitude.”

Medical team leader Zhao Xueke stated:

“Medical aid is a vital bridge for promoting friendship and safeguarding health. Under the leadership of the Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands, our medical team will continue to pay close attention to the healthcare needs of the outer islands, normalize the practice of such clinics, and bring high-quality medical services to the people. With benevolence and dedication, we aim to strengthen the health foundation of the friendship and cooperation between our two nations, and to carry forward the mission of medical aid in our continued service.”
