Burns Creek community unites in Sports amidst PM’s election security measures

DURING the Prime Ministerial election on May 2, 2024, as Honiara remained under police lockdown, the Burns Creek community took a different approach by engaging in soccer and volleyball activities organized by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) as part of community outreach efforts.

The National Crime Prevention Department of the RSIPF collaborated with the Burns Creek community to organize seven-a-side soccer and volleyball tournaments aimed at involving both young boys and girls.

According to RSIPF statement said in the seven-a-side soccer knockout, 30 teams competed for the top four prizes, while in volleyball, ten teams vied for similar honors.

The One Trust team emerged victorious in the soccer knockout, while in volleyball, Side Line claimed the top prize.

During the prize-giving ceremony, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Operations, Ms. Juanita Matanga, expressed her satisfaction at seeing the youth engaging in constructive activities that promote unity through sports.

Ms. Matanga commended all participants for their outstanding performances during the matches, acknowledging the efforts of teams that didn’t make it to the finals.

She further encouraged the soccer and volleyball participants to respect and heed the advice of community elders, emphasizing the importance of maintaining positive relationships within the community. Ms. Matanga assured the Burns Creek community of continued collaboration with the RSIPF in future endeavors.
