The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Youth Children and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) Cendrick Alependava says women and girls should be treated equally in all sectors of life across the country.

He says women’s biological differences must not be seen as a barrier but rather be respected and honored.

“A woman is a woman and they should be treated equally. We must treat them equally in all sectors of life, our behaviors and attitudes must be respectable and honorable to our women in the Solomon Islands so that they can excel to develop our country,” Alependava says.

He says stereotypes against women have no place in Solomon Island society.

“They have special roles, functions, and responsibilities that should be respected,” Alependava says.

He encourages women and girls in the country to join forces and build trust within all sectors.

“Build smart women and think big, you are a formidable force in the population of Solomon Islands. If you organize yourself, you can be a decision-maker in the provincial government as well as in the national government.

“I also urge you to work with men so that they will help you to become decision-makers. As well as be innovative in whatever things you do so that we can develop this nation together,” Alependava says.
