Director General of International Planned Parenthood Federation and a team from Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association have paid a courtesy call to the Prime Hon. Minister Manasseh Sogavare today.
Dr. Alvaro Bermejo was accompanied by officials from the Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association (SIPPA) and also SIPPA board president and board members.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare assured the IPPF Director General and SIPPA team of government’s commitment through the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to support the work of SIPPA in the areas of birth control, family planning and sexual reproductive services.
PM Sogavare also acknowledged that country has one of the highest growth rate in the world and so services provided by SIPPA are paramount to control the increasing population.
The Prime Minister has assured IPPF director general and the SIPPA team that government through the Ministry of Health and Medical Services will provide the necessary support to ensure SIPPA’s services reach the country’s remote areas.
The IPPF Director General Dr. Alvaro Bermejo also spoke highly of SIPPA’s work in the country, and assured the Prime Minister that IPPF will continue to support SIPPA into the future.
Director of SIPPA, Ben Agoa, also briefed the Prime Minister on the services provided by SIPPA and expressed that SIPPA wants to expand its services to reach all the nine Provinces in the country.
Agoa also informed the Prime Minister that SIPPA is actively providing data to the Ministry of Health to ensure that the ministry is kept abreast of issues in birth control, family planning and sexual reproduction.
