THEย Solomon Islands National Broadband Infrastructure Project (SINBIP)ย under the Ministry of Communication and Aviation, supported by the People’s Republic of China, and implemented by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC) in partnership with Huaweiย and Solomon Tower Limited(STL), continues to make steady progress in expanding telecommunications coverage across the country.
This week, six new sites were successfully commissioned, further enhancing network connectivity in Guadalcanal and Makira Provinces. With these additions, the total number of commissioned sites under SINBIP has now reached 110.
In Guadalcanal Province, New Site 2(Veravasa), New Site 3(Tambaleho), and New Site 4(Laona) have been brought into operation. These sites will significantly improve communication services for local communities and support social and economic development in the region.
Meanwhile, in Makira Province, three additional sitesโM174 (Papanabakiki), B198 (Laloasi), and M197 (Irokaule)โhave also been successfully put into service. The activation of these sites marks another important step in extending reliable telecommunications services to more remote and underserved areas.
Despite ongoing challenges in site access, land lease coordination, and technical implementation, all project stakeholders continue to work closely together to ensure steady progress. The successful commissioning of these six sites demonstrates the strong commitment of all parties involved in delivering improved digital infrastructure for Solomon Islands.
