Investigation Underway for Sudden Death in Tulagi, Central Province

THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is actively investigating the unexpected death of a male individual, believed to be in his 30s.

Superintendent David Soakai, the Provincial Police Commander (PPC) for Central Province, reported that the incident occurred on January 6, 2024, at the Tulagi shipyard in the afternoon. The unfortunate event transpired as workers were attempting to retrieve a badge at the shipyard.

According to PPC Soakai, it is alleged that the deceased, using a rope, attempted to dive under the badge from one side to the other but tragically did not make it across. Despite the wait by fellow workers, he did not resurface. A subsequent search revealed the deceased under the badge on the sea floor.

Superintendent Soakai stated that efforts were made to rescue the individual, providing all possible assistance until reaching the hospital, where he was eventually pronounced dead.

Mr. Soakai expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, recognizing the profound loss they are experiencing.
