AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS TOURISM SECTOR THROUGH HOSPITALITY TRAINING FOR STAFF AT HONIARA HOTEL

IN its latest effort to boost Solomon Islands’ tourism and hospitality sector, Australia recently delivered an accredited Customer Care – Hospitality short course to 23 employees of Honiara Hotel.

The program, delivered by the Australian Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), is designed to upskill employees, with the goal of enhancing guest satisfaction through improved service delivery. The short course includes hands-on instruction and guidance in customer engagement, hospitality etiquette, and service excellence, which are aligned with best practices in the hospitality industry.

Australia’s High Commissioner, His Excellency Rod Hilton said “I’m proud Australia is the number one source of tourists to Solomon Islands. This training program reflects Australia’s commitment to strengthening and growing Solomon Islands’ tourism and hospitality sector.”

“This Customer Care short course is focused on equipping local employees with the skills they need to ensure guests have a pleasant stay and look to visit the Hapi Isles again in the future,” His Excellency Hilton said.

Honiara Hotel’s Human Resource Manager and participant, Moses Bauri, commended Australia for the positive impact the training had had on staff.

“The Customer Care training provided by APTC has been invaluable for our team,” he said. “It has given our staff confidence and professionalism in serving our guests. We are grateful to APTC for elevating our service standards and enhancing our team’s skills, ensuring every guest at Honiara Hotel enjoys a warm, memorable experience,” Mr Moses added.

Security Officer at Honiara Hotel, Jack Lee, reflected on his first training experience, saying the training has been beneficial for him.

“I now have the skills to work effectively with people from diverse cultures, approach guests politely, and ensure a safe, welcoming environment.”

Marian Bako from Isabel Province, who works in housekeeping at Honiara Hotel, expressed her pride in gaining new skills, adding that she has learned effective communication techniques that will help her excel in her role.

This training is part of Australia’s broader efforts to boost Solomon Islands’ tourism sector, including its support for diving and surfing operators, partnerships to expand and improve accommodation facilities and marketing and promotion assistance.
