SOLOMON Islands is being represented at the global women’s forum for Peace and Humanitarian Action in Berlin Germany this week by the President of the Matavale Women’s Association, Yvonne Kwaomae.
The aim of the forum is to Identify challenges and priorities to enhance the support for women’s Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, working in peace, security and in humanitarian actions, promote women’s CSOs’ coalition building, networking, and joint actions to respond to the identified challenges and to enhance visibility, exchange of knowledge and lessons learned regarding women’s CSOs’ impact and leadership in PSHA and encourage the capitalization and replication of good practices.
According to the statement by Matavale Women’s it stated that more than 100 women from 25 countries working in Civil Society Organizations in the areas of peace, security and humanitarian actions took part in the forum.
Other representatives from the United Nations Women Peace and Humanitarian Fund and U-N Entities and donor governments and think tanks based in Germany also attended the forum.
Challenges and priorities for women’s CSOs to conduct peace and humanitarian work in fragile contexts and Building coalitions and joint actions to enhance the recognition and support for women’s CSOs’ work in peace, security and humanitarian action were among issues discussed at the forum.
Other issues discussed at the forum include conflict Prevention and Peace building, Humanitarian actions, Conflict resolution, Protection against Sexual and Gender-based Violence and Women’s Participation in economic recovery.
The expected outcome of the forum would be that Women’s CSOs working in conflict and crisis settings have identified their shared priorities and formulated recommendations for the donor community and other stakeholders to effectively support women’s PSHA’s work, recognize their contributions and address the needs and challenges they face.
It is also hoped that at the end of the forum, there would be improved networking and coordination between women’s CSOs working on PSHA at national, regional, and international levels, which may lead to new collaboration opportunities on the ground or online to respond to the identified challenges.
The main components of the forum are to share knowledge and learn from each other Advocacy and coalition building, Capacity building, and Communications.
