RSIPF warns communities about bomb blasting at Alligator Creek

THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team plans to carry out a live demolition of bombs in the Alligator Creek area, east of Honiara on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

The Officer In-charge Supervising (OIC Spvg) of EOD, SSgt Peter Ririvere, stated that the Hells Point Demolition Range in Central Guadalcanal will be active from 8am to 1pm on July 19, 2023.

Police in their statement issued earlier warned surrounding communities and the public to ensure safety, farmers, fishermen, hunters, and the general public in and around the Henderson area, Alligator Creek, and Tenaru School are advised to stay away from Hells Point while the operation is in progress.

Police said safe evacuations and road blocks will be implemented in these areas, extending from East Henderson to the Tenaru School bus stop. This routine weekly EOD task aims to minimize the number of stored Unexploded Ordnances at the site, as explained by Staff Sergeant Ririvere.

The firing of each serial will be coordinated by the Air Traffic Control Tower at the Honiara International Airport. EOD Operators will be stationed at the control tower throughout the operation, starting from the actual times of the demolition.
