AFP supports RSIPF with $7.5M for secure and green Pacific Games 2023

THE Australian Federal Police (AFP) has recently provided a significant boost to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) with a support package totaling SBD$7.5 million (AUD$1.325 million).

This contribution, facilitated through the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) and Solomons’ International Assistance Force (SIAF), is aimed at strengthening RSIPF capabilities in anticipation of the upcoming Pacific Games in November and beyond.

During a ceremony held at the RSIPF Rove Headquarters on July 26, 2023, AFP Assistant Commissioner Nigel Ryan, currently in Honiara, formally handed over the support package to RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau.

The comprehensive support package encompasses essential items such as public order management equipment, police uniforms, laptop computers, and traffic and road safety equipment.

Commissioner Mangau and Assistant Commissioner Ryan marked the occasion by signing a certificate for the gift handover. The ceremony was witnessed by executive members from RSIPF, RAPPP, and SIAF, along with RSIPF and AFP members associated with RAPPP and SIAF.

Commissioner Mangau expressed gratitude for the continued collaboration between the AFP and RSIPF, highlighting that these contributions will significantly reinforce RSIPF’s capabilities in ensuring the security of the Pacific Games 2023 and subsequent events.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of RSIPF in maintaining security, Commissioner Mangau stated, “Security is the important role of the RSIPF, and the gifts from the AFP will support the RSIPF in boosting its ability in carrying out security operations during the PG23, providing safe and green games and thereafter.”

In response, AFP Assistant Commissioner Ryan conveyed the honor felt by the AFP in supporting RSIPF’s security efforts for the Pacific Games. He expressed gratitude to Commissioner Mangau and his executive team for their ongoing cooperation and support, emphasizing how the provided equipment will contribute to ensuring a safe, secure, and environmentally conscious Pacific Games experience for competitors, spectators, residents, and visitors in the Solomon Islands.
