The Prime Minister Honourable Jeremiah Manele MP was among leaders of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) who witnessed the inauguration of the new President of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Prabowo Subianto yesterday morning, 20th October 2024.
The inauguration brought together leaders from around the world. For the MSG, the leaders present included Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Honourable Charlot Salwai, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Honourable James Marape and the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Honourable Jeremiah Manele. Fiji was represented by its ambassador.
All of Jakarta was filled with joyous celebration as people lined the streets with Indonesian flags and banners bearing the image of the new president. Musical bands entertained the crowds along the streets, creating a festive atmosphere.
During his inauguration speech, President Subianto acknowledged the leaders for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the “constitutional change”.
President Subianto singled out each leader by mentioning their name and country. Prime Minister Manele was also acknowledged for gracing the occasion.
After his inauguration speech, President Subianto took the time to shake hands with all the leaders.
Prime Minister Manele will have a bilateral meeting with President Subianto later this afternoon, 21st October.
