THE Rove Zone 3 Dove Women’s Group has made significant strides in empowering its members and improving their livelihoods. In May 2025, the group received a generous donation of sewing machines from the People’s Republic of China, facilitated by the Chinese Embassy and presented by the China Police Liaison Team.
This remarkable support marks the first time the police family has benefitted from such an initiative, opening new doors of opportunity for the women involved.
Following the receipt of the sewing machines, the Dove Women’s Group organized its first formal sewing training a comprehensive two-day workshop over the weekend 19 to 20 July 2025, and was attended by women from within Rove zone 3 women, most of whom are police officers’ spouses.
Many of the participants had not previously had the chance to acquire practical life skills. The training focused on both basic and intermediate sewing techniques, enabling participants to gain hands-on experience and build confidence in using the new machines.

Participants expressed heartfelt gratitude to the People’s Republic of China for this meaningful support. One participant, Beauty Nanda, noted at the close of the workshop that for many, learning to sew represents more than just acquiring a new skill—it provides an opportunity to start small businesses or supplement household income. She emphasized that participating in such life skills training will help women support their husbands and benefit individual households. Moreover, these efforts contribute to strengthening the broader community, as women gain the ability to play a more active role in their families’ well-being.
The Rove Zone 3 Dove Women’s Group firmly believes in the critical role women play both at home and within society. When women are given opportunities like this, they are better equipped to support their spouses, allowing police officers to focus on their demanding duties with peace of mind regarding their families’ welfare. Additionally, the skills acquired through sewing may inspire further learning, personal growth, and cooperation among group members.

The group highlighted that the partnership with the People’s Republic of China represents a promising pathway for long-term empowerment and development for police families. They look forward to receiving continued support and to working collaboratively in the future to further uplift and empower women in their community.
