The Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) is championing the “Keep Honiara Clean Campaign,” demonstrating its commitment to preparing the city for the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) meeting scheduled for next month in Honiara.
On Wednesday (20th August) afternoon, MRD staff dedicated their time to cleaning their designated zones within the city, demonstrating practical civic responsibility and inspiring other agencies to follow suit.
This initiative is a direct response to a Cabinet decision mandating all public servants and employees of the national government working in Honiara, Honiara City Council, and Guadalcanal Province to participate in the campaign for a half-day work every week on Wednesday and Friday afternoons in preparation for the PIF meeting.
The clean-up drives will run until 5th September 2025, to ensure a clean environment for all.
Despite short notice for the first event, MRD staff proceeded without delay to clean their assigned areas, which span from the HCC Roundabout to Mataniko Plaza and the Holy Cross Cathedral.
“As proud and responsible citizens, it is our duty to keep our city clean. A cleaner community reflects a brighter future for us all. This campaign demonstrates our commitment to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for both residents and international visitors,” MRD said, emphasizing the significance of the collective effort.
The clean-up will continue this Friday.
