RSIPF Reassures Public of Integrity and Accountability Following Officer Traffic Incident

THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) confirms that a police officer was involved in a traffic incident at the ITA area in Honiara.

Police Commissioner (Acting) Mathias Lenialu said the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness, with traffic and forensic officers attending the scene last night.

โ€œThe officer is currently at the Central Police Station and will undergo a Breathalyzer test as part of the investigation. This process will determine the appropriate course of action,โ€ Commissioner Lenialu said.

He acknowledged growing public concern around trust and confidence in policing, emphasizing that the RSIPF is committed to transparency and accountability.

โ€œWe understand that public trust is critical to our work. Incidents like this can affect confidence, and we want to assure our communities that no officer is above the law. If any wrongdoing is confirmed, the officer will be held accountable in accordance with the law and internal disciplinary processes,โ€ he said.

โ€œThis is exactly why internal accountability mechanisms exist within the RSIPF. We will ensure a thorough and impartial process is followed. If misconduct is established, appropriate disciplinary and legal action will be taken. Our officers are entrusted with upholding the law, and that standard applies at all times, without exception.โ€

Commissioner Lenialu also issued a strong reminder about the dangers of drinking and driving.

โ€œDrink driving is a serious offense that puts lives at risk. This applies to every citizen, including police officers. We continue to urge the public to make responsible choices and to report unsafe behavior on our roads.โ€

The RSIPF reassures the public that it remains committed to serving with integrity, upholding the law fairly, and maintaining the trust and safety of all Solomon Islanders.
