REMOBATU RETIRES AFTER AN ILLUSTRIOUS PUBLIC SERVICE CAREER

The Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) has farewelled the Secretary to Cabinet (STC), James Remobatu who retired from the Public Service.

Remobatu holds a degree in law from the University of Papua New Guinea and joined the public service cadre in 1989. He is known for his straight forward advices and strict adherence to public service rules and regulations.

Remobatu holds the post of Secretary to Cabinet from 2012 till last week Friday when he took his much needed retirement.

As a way of acknowledging his contribution to nation- building and also farewelling an illustrious public service career, Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare and the OPMC staff led a farewell dinner for Remobatu and his family at the Mendana Hotel.

Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh and Madam Emmy Sogavare, ministers of the crown, Secretary to Prime Minister, permanent secretaries, officials from government institutions under OPMC and OPMC staff members  were in attendance.

In acknowledging Remobatu’s industrious public office career, Prime Minister Sogavare said “we are here to celebrate the remarkable contribution of a very special person to the Solomon Islands Government…the outgoing Secretary to Cabinet…is the administrative Head of the Public Service, a position he competently held…”.

The Prime Minister added that “His continual engagement in that Office speaks volume of the trust and confidence that the Political governments on different sides of the political spectrum of this country have on him.”

PM Sogavare further highlighted that Remobatu is someone that does “not hold back any punches when it comes to advising the government on issues.”

“He did not tell us what we want to hear, rather what we must hear,” PM Sogavare pointed out.

The Prime Minister extended his commendation to the many public servants who take their calling seriously as well. Adding that such attitude must be encouraged by team leaders and heads of departments to lead by example.

“Mr. Remobatu not only believe in it but actually lived it. It is difficult to let go of a person who has done so much and performed extremely well as Secretary to cabinet,” PM Sogavare stated.

Other speakers at the farewell dinner also spoke highly of James Remobatu’s leadership and more importantly, his positive impact in their respective career development.

Remobatu’s stellar public service career is one that should be emulated by all public servants.
