Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare assures Parliament this week that Solomon Island is ready to host the 17th Pacific Games on 23rd November 2023.
“Seven months from today Solomon Islands will be participating in the opening ceremony of the 17th Pacific Games in our brand new 10,000-seat national stadium,” he says.
Sogavare says the 2023 Pacific Games facilities have transformed the capital city and the infrastructure is an investment in young people that will leave a legacy for future generations.
Sogavare says the progress in preparations both infrastructures and other facilities are indications that Pacific Games will go as planned.
“Let me say, at this juncture, 7 months out from the Games, that I can assure this Honourable House that we are ready to host the 17th Pacific Games from 19 November to 2 December 2023.
“I have been assured that the road from the international airport to Fishing Village will be completed by September this year, and all the Games Venues and facilities will be completed and handed over to the National Hosting Authority NHA by August 2023,” Sogavare says.
He says all Games villages for the accommodation of athletes and officials will be handed over to the NHA by October 2023.
Sogavare says work on the Feeder roads in Honiara will start around May/June after the Ministry of Finance completed the compliance check on the Tender Submissions.
